Club Background
The Southern California Roller Canary Club was
organized in 1946. Original founders of the club included Chalice O.
Thomason, now deceased, who probably possessed the most knowledge of
anyone on the care, breeding, training and song of the Roller
Canary. Chalice was not only an official Judge of the Roller canary
but also a prolific writer of articles about all aspects of the
Roller. In addition to the club's newsletter, his articles appeared
in the Dominion Roller Canary News, Cage Bird Magazine, the South
Australian Roller Canary Magazine, the Olympic Roller Canary Club's
newsletter and the newsletter of the Northwest Roller Canary Club,
as well as other canary related publications. The Olympic Roller
Canary Club ceased operation a number of years ago and transferred
all of its assets to the Southern California Roller Canary Club.
Many individuals were members of both clubs for a number of years.
The Southern California Roller Canary Club has,
for many years, held each year the largest Song Contest and Show
exclusively for the Roller Canary of any club in the United States.
This Song Contest and Show is held during the first full week of
January of each year.
The Southern California Roller Canary Club is
privileged to have members in Australia, Canada, Korea, Japan and
the United Kingdom as well as all across the United States.
Anyone who has an interest in the Roller Canary
is always welcome and is encouraged to become a member. |
